Three Things to Do in Bend, Oregon During Your Next Home Cleaning!

Getting your house cleaned? Wonderful! Take advantage of your newfound free time and indulge yourself (and your children) in fun, relaxing, and rejuvenating activities. Consider these three things:

#1 Indulge in a Float Tank

No children in tow? If so, in just one hour, you’ll experience the ultimate in serenity! Indulge yourself in the uniqueness of a float tank that relaxes you through buoyancy and water immersion. Float therapy helps you rejuvenate and refresh.

Ever been in a float tank? Worried about claustrophobia? Heck, this writer (the quintessential claustrophobe) had no problems with the small space, about the size of a twin mattress.  And there’s no need to even shut the tank lid if you prefer a more open environment.

The completely weightless feeling of floating works wonders for both physical and mental health. Floating transports you into an incredibly deep, dream-like state which is perfect if you experience stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other mental health issues. People also use floating to treat physical conditions such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, injury recovery, or any other chronic pain issues.

Easy Float in Bend, Oregon offers individual float sessions at $75 for 75 minutes. At times, they have special offers on social media (Facebook or Instagram). We know you’ll love how you will feel after a float tank experience!

Located at 375 NE Franklin Avenue in Bend, Easy Float is a popular destination.  You’ll want to book your spot seven days in advance for weekends. During the week, a few days in advance works well and, sometimes, you can even get a same-day appointment.

You can book online at https://easyfloatbend.floathelm.com/booking. Easy Float can be reached at 541-728-0337 and floatbend@easyfloat.com. They are open from 9 AM to 3 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday and from 9 AM to 5 PM from Thursday through Sunday (closed on Monday).

Treat yourself to lunch before or after your float at the Lively Up Yourself Food Cart. Vegans and non-vegans alike will enjoy their delectable comfort food. Lively Up Yourself, Food Cart is open from 11 AM to 8 PM Monday through Wednesday, 11 AM to 9 PM Thursday through Saturday, and 11 AM to 7 PM on Sunday. They are located at 1661 NE 4th Street in Bend at the Midtown Yacht Club.

#2 Awaken Your Senses at Tumalo Falls!

A stunning site, Tumalo Falls is a must-see when you live in Bend. And visiting more than once is a luxury you deserve!

Tumalo Falls, located within the Deschutes National Forest, is a quick 20-minute drive from Bend. You’ll find an 89-foot waterfall (some say it’s 97 feet) that pours over the edge of ancient lava rock, plunging into Tumalo Creek where it continues to wind peacefully through a young ponderosa pine forest.

Hiking to Tumalo Falls is easy and straightforward. After a few switchbacks, you’ll reach the spectacular Tumalo Falls overlook platform just 0.25 miles from the trailhead. This hike offers much more up the trail. You’ll pass a total of seven cascading waterfalls along the North Fork trail as you head up towards the Cascade Mountains. The trail is steep and loose, but well-maintained.

Bring your hiking shoes or running shoes (no flip-flops!) and plan a day out at the Falls with easy hiking and breathtaking views. Please note that the last three miles driving up to the Falls are filled with rough gravel and potholes. Any type of car can make it, but best to leave your RV at home!

Parking at the day-use area requires a Northwest Forest Pass or fee payment from May 1 – September 30 and is available on site for $5 or can be purchased from Forest Service offices or various vendors in Bend. Parking can be tricky on weekends, so best to go during the week or very early in the morning on weekends. However, the parking fee area begins just before crossing the bridge and it’s possible to safely park along the roadside if you are lucky to find a spot.

#3 Try Something New at Bend Rock Gym!

A climbing gym may not be the first thing you think of for an outing but could be just the right activity for you. Spend the day climbing either solo or with your kids! Within the facility, there are three gyms to choose from (all at the same facility), you can rock climb or belay at the North, South or West gyms. At roughly 31,000 square feet of climbing space, you’ll have plenty to keep yourself busy!

For beginners, auto belays and bouldering (without a belay) are your best choices. You can fill out a waiver online before showing up to speed up your day… or can easily do this on the premises. Beginners are welcome. Private and group lessons are available daily, but it’s best to sign up a week or two in advance.

Bend Rock Gym is open from 8 AM to 9 PM Monday through Friday. On weekends, the gym is open from 10 AM to 6 PM. You’ll want to be in active wear that is easy to move in, and you can rent shoes and a harness for $10 a day. Day passes are $22 for adults and $19 for children and students (ID required). You can reach Bend Rock Gym at 541-388-6764 or at info@bendrockgym.com. They are located at 1182 SE Centennial Court in Bend.

For lunch before or after your rock climbing experience, check out El Sancho Taco Shop on Dekalb. For delicious street food created in a sustainable manner and served in a fun, colorful environment, El Sancho is the place to go!  Located at 335 NE Dekalb Avenue in Bend.
